Chippenham River FestivalThis year’s Chippenham River Festival took place on Saturday 20th July 2013 and the warm weather brought out the crowds for another fun packed event with plenty of activities on the River Avon and in Monkton Park.
The Festival was launched by local DJ Andy Henly from the Town Bridge, following a flotilla of boats that had made their way upstream.
Various powered and non-powered craft took to the river during the day including canoes, kayaks, katakanus and rafts. The Wilts and Berks Canal Trust ran their popular river trips showing people the unique experience of being on the beautiful River Avon.
One of the highlights of the river activities was the Big Swim where up to 50 people splashed their way along almost three quarters of a mile from the Sailing and Canoeing Club to the Olympiad Leisure Centre. This was followed by a handful of children who took part in the Kids Width. Councillor David Powell, Leader of the Town Council was on hand to present all the swimmers with a medal and certificate.
On land there were display from Calne Divers, the Chippenham Canoe & Sailing Club and the Museum & Heritage Centre.
Entertaining the crowds were kids favourite Punch & Judy, the Zooted ‘Mad Chefs’ and live music came from the Original Sax Quartet & Bob Jones 4+1 Jazz Band.
Chippenham Hospital Radio were at the event providing information on what was going on, interviewing the various clubs & organisations and playing background music.
A great day was had by all…
