Chippenham River FestivalThe 6th Chippenham River Festival will take place on Saturday 19th July between 10am and 5pm at Monkton Park. The festival brings together many local organisations and offers many opportunities to try out different activities.
The festival begins with a GRAND FLOTILLA and a variety of boats from Chippenham Sailing & Canoeing Club will make their way upstream, including canoes and kayaks, and a Dragon Boat . The Chippenham Sea Cadets will transport the town mayor to the park, where he will declare the festival open.
We will be offering many opportunities to take part, and to enjoy the river. You can try out a canoe or a kayak and even race up the river. For the very first time in Chippenham, you will be able to take a ZIP WIRE across the river! The Zip Wire is kindly provided by local adventure company, Oceanrock. For the less energetic, there will be trips on a river boat.
Again we will be holding the BIG SWIM, a great experience for anyone who enjoys swimming. This event attracts wild swimmers from all over the country. The Big Swim is followed by the Kids Swim of 25metres.
There will be plenty more to see on the river, including a water polo game and other water sports.
On the riverside there will be childrens’ activities, exhibitions, stalls and entertainment all day, with Punch & Judy, pirates and live music in the beer tent.
The Chippenham Hospital Radio Roadshow will be there providing music, announcements and commentary. Why not come along and meet some of the voices you hear on-air.
This is a festival for all the family to enjoy, so come along and join the fun!
