Chippenham's Festival of Christmas

Chippenham Town Council has launched  the “Festival of Christmas,” a series of events celebrating all things festive.

The series of events will begin with a festive filled day on Sunday 28 November and will run until Friday 31 December.

The festive filled day on Sunday 28 November will commence between 10.00am – 7.00pm and is full of free entertainment across the town centre, with the aim of bringing the community together safely to enjoy a range of activities and enjoy the Christmas lights, which include:

• Meet Santa at the Yelde Hall, 10.00am-6.00pm
• Lantern Making Workshops and Glitter-Glo Face Painting at the Town Hall, 11.00am-4.00pm
• Fire Performers in the Market Place, intervals between 4.00pm-6.00pm
• Festive Stilt-walkers on the High Street, 10.00am-4.00pm
• Snow Globe Photo Experience in Borough Parade Shopping Centre, 11.00am-6.00pm

In addition to the events above, the High Street will host a festive Artisan Market between 10.00am-7.00pm. There will be over 30 stalls to visit and enjoy across the day including artisan cider, mulled wine, and roasted chestnuts as well as, handmade gifts, and baked goods.

A small community stage will also feature in Market Place where the Christmas Tree can be found. The stage will feature a variety of local acts between 11.00am – 6.00pm including Corsham and Colerne Military Wives Choir, Chippenham’s Dancing Academy, Ministry of Samba, Rock Choir: Trowbridge, Frome, Warminster/Westbury and Chippenham, CLOGG’s Musical Theatre.

The Christmas lights will be switched on at 5.00pm on Sunday 28 November and 3:30pm onwards across the festive season, however, to reduce the risk of mass gathering there won’t be an official countdown, or switch on this year.

Throughout December there is a whole range of events happening as part of our Festival of Christmas. There will be a Gingerbread Window Trail, across the town centre, starting on Sunday 28 November until Wednesday 8 December. You will be encouraged to seek out a variety of Gingerbread characters displayed within windows of local businesses across the town. Trail cards will be available to collect from the Town Hall and Chippenham Museum and should be returned to the same locations. There are three voucher prize bundles to be won that will be announced closer to the time.

Alongside the Gingerbread Window Trail, there will be a spectacular Enchanted Light Trail where you can see the trees and riverbank illuminated as never seen before. The Trail is free and accessible for all. This will run from Friday 3 December until Thursday 9 December between 4:30pm – 9:30pm on the Island in Monkton Park, starting just as you walk over the Town Bridge.
