Annual canvass resumes

Wiltshire Council is resuming the annual process of ensuring the county's electoral register is up to date by contacting Wiltshire residents who have not yet responded to the annual canvass.

Each year the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) has a legal requirement to conduct an annual canvass to ensure the electoral register is accurate and complete.

From this month (November) canvassers will be posting a reminder notice through letterboxes to residents who have not yet responded to the canvass form sent a few weeks ago. Canvassers will not knock on doors, they will simply post the reminder card. Anyone that receives a reminder will need to follow the clear instructions to confirm their details.

People are asked to respond to the annual canvass electronically if they are able to. It's more convenient for them and saves the council valuable money and time.

As part of this process, Wiltshire Council or the Electoral Commission will never ask for people's bank details.

Any person who is not correctly registered, could lose their eligibility to vote in future local and general elections, so it is crucial that all details are correct and up-to-date.
