Holocaust Memorial Day 2023
Holocaust Memorial Day takes place each year on 27th January.
Holocaust Memorial Day Trust encourages remembrance in a world scarred by genocide. They promote and support Holocaust Memorial Day – the international day to remember the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, alongside the millions of other people killed under Nazi persecution of other groups and during more recent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.
The 27th January marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi death camp.
HMD is for everyone. Each year across the UK, thousands of people come together to learn more about the past and take action to create a safer future.

Locally, the Mayor of Chippenham will be marking the day with an address, which you will be able to watch from 4pm on the day.
In the video, which you will be able to see on the council's social channels and YouTube, the Mayor will hold a candle to remember all those people around the world who have been the victim of genocide.
An electronic candle will remain lit at Customer Services at the Town Hall until 9am on 28 January.
