Chippenham's new mayor is invested
Chippenham Town Council has celebrated the outgoing Mayor, Councillor Declan Baseley and welcomed the new Mayor of Chippenham, Councillor Conor Melvin with the annual civic event, the Mayor’s Investiture.
Chief Executive of the Town Council, Mark Smith, opened the ceremony by welcoming invited guests and dignitaries.
Asked by the outgoing Mayor, Councillor Desna Allen, Leader of the Council presented her nomination for Councillor Conor Melvin, and invited all Councillors to show their support with a show of hands.
Councillor Melvin read the Declaration of Acceptance of Office of Mayor and signed his signature in confirmation. The Mayor then invited Councillor Baseley to make a speech on his year in office and make his thank you presentations, which included thanking the outgoing Mayoral Cadets.
The Mayor invited Councillor Peter Cousins to propose a vote of thanks to the outgoing Mayor, and Councillor Baseley received some gifts of thanks.
The Mayor then made his inaugural speech, before presenting the nomination in support of Councillor Kathryn Macdermid to be the Deputy Mayor, presenting her with the Chain of Office and inviting her to make a speech. He also invited the new Mayoral Cadets to come forward to receive their badges.
