If you're aged 16–25 and starting university or further education for the first time, you can get two free MenB vaccine doses at participating pharmacies this summer.

Meningococcal disease is rare but very serious and requires urgent hospital treatment. It can lead to life-changing disabilities. It is caused by meningococcal bacteria which are divided into several groups.

This vaccine will help to prevent cases of meningitis and septicaemia caused by most strains of the meningococcal B bacteria.

The MenB vaccine is given in 2 doses, which need to be at least 4 weeks apart. You should book your 2nd dose after you've had your 1st dose.

You can book an appoitment either via the NHS website or at a pharmacy.

Pharmacies will offer MenB vaccinations if you were born on or after 21 July 2001, and for the first time this autumn you are:

• starting university
• starting at some further education colleges as a residential student

International students and students from Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man and those who are travelling abroad to study are also eligible.

You'll need to bring evidence of your university or college offer.

You do not need to be registered with a GP to get a MenB vaccine at a pharmacy.

Local pharmacies that offer the jab are Boots in the High Street, Rowden Hill Pharmacy, Pewsham Pharmacy on Cricketts Lane and Morrisons on West Cepen Way.
